GRA to hold 6th Annual “Guinea Dipping”

Editor Jesse Starcher

The Gloucester Rowing Association held their 6th Annual “Guinea Dipping” on March 16th, last Saturday. The competition, involving jumping into ice cold water, was held at the York River, and the cost was 25 dollars to watch Gloucester High School’s Crew team jump into this water.

The event is held as a way to support the team, and to help them make some extra funds. Pace Peterson, a member of Gloucester High’s Crew team claims, “The school doesn’t support the team with money.”, also going on to state that the “Guinea dipping” event was one of the sources of revenue for the team, other than some fundraising. The team also holds an annual golf game to raise revenue.

Funds gained for the team all go to training equipment the team needs. Zane Musick-Williams, a member of Gloucester’s Crew team, has also agreed that the event is a great way for the team to earn extra funds.

The event also has a variety of other events for participants. There’s a lot of local food, music, a raffle, and even diving demonstrations. “Guinea Dipping” is impressively run by volunteers, and is specifically done to benefit students. Without these extra revenue boosts, the students in crew could end up paying up to thousands a year just for equipment. All in all, “Guinea Dipping” is not only a fun and interesting event to attend, but it also supports your local teams here in Gloucester.
