Board of Supervisors approves their own Raise

Reporter Summer Smith

On Tuesday May 7th, an action that has not been taken since 2005 was approved... The members of the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors voted at the colonial courthouse to give themselves a raise. Which is something very interesting, considering this hasn’t been done since 2005. Though, it was long overdue for these board members.

According to Brent Fedors, who is the County administrator, a competitive salary and compensation analysis for the entire county staff took place. This included the entire board of supervisors and others who were not usually included when being granted salary increases. The members were evaluated in the same way as would any county staff member. This meant they used the same calculation and jurisdictions as any other member. In conclusion of this analysis it turned out to be the average salary level of a board supervisors was in fact below average since it had not been adjusted since the year 2005. As of currently each board member annually receives $7,000 and the chairman receives $8,800. However, with this new and improved salary increase each board member will receive $8,200 annually and the chairman will receive $10,000. For both board members and the chairman they each received a salary increase of $1,200. These new raises will officially become effective on January 1st, 2020. And for the year of 2020 the increase in salary is taken into consideration for the fiscal county budget.
