Gloucester County Honors 2018-19 Teachers of the Year

Teacher of the Year is always a big deal at Gloucester County. It’s a title that teachers at every school strive for, this year being no exception. The title is one of the biggest honours a teacher can have. It means that they outshine other teachers, setting a proper example of what a teacher should be, having all the qualities needed to shine brighter than other teachers in the County, and in some cases, the entire District.

Each school in the country has one winners for teacher of the year, while this year, Gloucester High School Honours two teachers. For the district, there is one main Teacher chosen for the year out of all the existing County winners.

Abington Elementary School has Kelly Dalton, Achilles Elementary School has Sarah Clements, Bethel Elementary School has Christina Deyoung, Botetourt Elementary School has Kimberly Roark, Petsworth Elementary School has Carla Williams, Paige Middle School has Jacinda Glaser, Peasley Middle School has Diana Chapman, and Gloucester High School Honours both Kristen Heaney and Jackie Outten.

The main factor to determine the Teacher of the Year is the voice of other teachers. A ballot is held where teachers can vote on their choice for most qualified teacher. It’s a good opportunity to have the nominees decide who is the best Teacher, them being able to decide for themselves what qualities they seek for a Teacher of the Year.

Even more impressive of a feat is the fact that Gloucester High School’s own Kristen Heaney was honoured the title of Teacher of the District. “My biggest obstacle this year has been finding time to complete my to-do list!” joked Heaney. Over all other candidates for schools in local Districts, Kristen Heaney was chosen as the top dog, proving that she has the needed qualities to make her an example of what a great teacher should and can be. “I’m extremely excited by this opportunity,” said Heaney, “It shows me that I am having a positive impact in our school and community!”
