Wanna Smash?

Reporter Kaylee Walls

Hey you! Yeah you there, wanna smash? Well come on down to room D15 for a Super Smash Bros Ultimate Tournament on Tuesday March 5th hosted by the journalism team.

The cost is five dollars for entry and the winner will receive an Amiibo as a prize. The Amiibo is a figurine that can be used in various Nintendo games to unlock bonuses depending on the title used. In Super Smash Bros Ultimate, the amiibo can be scanned to summon a figure player to play against and teach a fighting style based on who it is fighting. The figure can be based on any of the seventy one available fighters, there are even figures based on other popular franchises such as Mario, Animal Crossing, Dark Souls, and The Legend of Zelda.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is a video game for the Nintendo Switch System featuring characters from every corner of the gaming world such as Mario, Ryu from Street Fighter, Cloud from Final Fantasy, and even Snake from Metal Gear. There are over 70 characters to choose from and over one hundred stages. With over nine hundred music tracks Smash Ultimate is the biggest Smash yet.

As the sixth smash game in its smash class, Super Smash Bros Ultimate has multiple different modes for competitive play. Some of these modes being, stock, stamina, and smash down. These modes coupled with the fact that there are a lot of options to customize stages helps make Super Smash Bros Ultimate the smash game of choice at tournaments like EVO.

Junior Ethan Miller, in charge of the event, says “The idea of Smash for Cash really toots my horn.” Sophomore, Daniel Walsh and Junior Ethan Miller introduced the idea of Smash for Cash last year but it has not been successfully completed until now. The idea was introduced as a fundraiser to raise money for the journalism team and have fun at the same time.

The name has brought up quite a bit of interest and brought in all sorts of people. With advertising over the school announcements and a table set up at lunch advertising the event, there has been a lot of interest about the event. The turnout is expected to be about twenty people, give or take a few. Operator Ethan Miller says “ With these type of things you usually get a lot of last minute players and spectators.”

The entrance fee is five dollars and there will be an additional charge for food. Journalism teacher, Mr. Crowley, will be providing pizza for $1.50 a slice, and there will be additional snacks for purchase.

The event itself is expected to bring in about one hundred dollars. The journalism team hopes to raise money to be able to print the Duke Dispatch.
