Mr. Mygas Enters GHS Administration

By Reporter Tyler Langley

Gloucester High School is lucky to have a guy like Stefan Mygas come along. You may have spotted a familiar face, knowing you have seen him somewhere before. Mr. Mygas has worked for Gloucester county public schools in the past, but this year he has stepped in as a new assistant principal.

Mr. Mygas is a graduate of the University of Virginia and alongside spending time with his family, enjoys watching the games and cheering on his beloved alma mater. “I wanted to go to their business school. I had a change of career plans, but I’m still glad I went there.” Mr. Mygas also majored in psychology, “it helped me understand why people do what they do.”

As a former high school student himself, Mr. Mygas picks up on the drastic differences between our generation and his. “We didn’t have the same kind of access to technology and the Internet that students have now. I think it would have made school much more interesting.” However there are some very important things that have stayed the same, “I was fortunate to have teachers who had high expectations for me and for themselves. I think all students deserve that experience too.”

Many of us know our assistant principals but do we really know anything about the job? When asked to give a bit of insight into the day to day of an AP Mr. Mygas had this to say “It’s always something different. It’s an exciting job because you get to help lots of students and staff members in many different ways. It can be exhausting and stressful but it’s very rewarding and I’m grateful to be here at GHS.”
