Beta Club Creates Cards for Teachers

Editor Amber Howle

On Tuesday March 12, BETA Club held a “Card Creators” service project for its members to make cards appreciating the teachers of GHS. There were 21 slots open for the project and most, but not all, spots were filled. The project lasted from right after school until 5:00pm. The project’s purpose was to make cards for teachers to show their appreciation for teachers all over Gloucester High School. This is only one of the many service projects BETA Club has done and plans to do this year.

The National BETA Club is a non-profit, educational youth group that helps to create the leaders of tomorrow. BETA Club recognizes high achieving students and they also do community service to lead others in the right direction. Their motto, “Let us lead by serving others”, means to lead others down the right path by setting an example and serving the community.

Current and possible BETA members gave quotes about their opinion on the club. Sophomore Kyleigh Johnson says, “BETA Club is a great opportunity to get more involved in your community around you. It helps you to connect with like minded peers and the people in your community, and is a great outlet for communal growth.” Junior Andrew Castaneda, who was invited to join BETA states, “BETA Club sounds pretty good to me. I respect it, though I chose not to join. There’s a particular honor that’s tied to it- it impacts unto every one of its members a value of integrity, virtue, and ingenuity.” He continues, “BETA’s creation of a common student-hood benefits us as students as well as the community as a whole, and in turn, yields brighter possibilities for generations yet to come.”

There are many more service projects coming up for BETA, including an O’Riley’s Car Wash, Military Basket Making, Staff Card Creators, Chick-fil-A Spirit Nights and Clean up Gloucester Day(s). These service projects really help out our community, and give BETA members service experience.
