Lil Uzi Vert Back in Music

Reporter Karley Ross

On January 11th, 2019 rapper Lil Uzi Vert posted to his Instagram story a message that brought sorrow to his loyal fans. “I wanna take the time out to say I thank each and every one of my supporters but I’m done with music, ” Uzi posted to his story with a photo of his Gucci socks. “I deleted everything. I wanna be normal … I wanna wake up in 2013. Thank you, love you. You are free.”

He also went ahead and deleted everything music related on his Instagram and Twitter, leaving his fans just a few selfies.

Uzi has been planning and getting his fans hyped up for his new album “Eternal Atake” since before anything about leaving music was said, but now has everyone unsure if it’s going to be released.

Uzi has been hinting on wanting to get out of his deal with Atlantic Records, which he has had since 2014, for a while. He appeared on a Shabazz PBG’s song “Shells” where he hints at it.

The last thing we had heard from Uzi at this time period was a collaboration with Lil Pump on “Multi Millionaire” and with Juice WRLD on “Wasted.” The last single he let out solo was 2018’s “New Patek”

In less than two months, Uzi has decided his quitting music isn’t something he’s interested in. He released a new song Thursday (March 28) titled “Free Uzi”. Throwing more hints at the fact of wanting to get out of his record deal.

As of 6:40 PM on Thursday, Atlantic Records confirmed the song hadn’t been released on any streaming service and the track was a leak, not a release. But, Uzi took it to his Instagram with a different message. He posted the cover art for the track and wrote “Free Uzi out now.”

Uzi has released clips from the “Free Uzi” video but it could be released at any moment.

Lyrics from “Free Uzi” read "I can't trust none of these **, might turn on me… I'm still a millionaire, this s*** not hurtin' me but it's hurtin' you and I know the truth."

According to a source, Uzi released “Free Uzi” on his own, which explains why his label was unaware of its release and called it a “leak.” Also, according to the source, Atlantic Records is not allowing Uzi to release music, and uploading the song was to find a way around the situation. Atlantic Records declined to speak on any claims made.

DJ Drama, who co-found the label Uzi is signed to, says "Uzi should put out “Eternal Atake” tomorrow or any day he wants, he has me and [co-CEO] Cannon's total support and blessings to drop it." So, it seems as if we don’t have to wait too long for Uzi’s comeback.

Last month in an interview with DJ Akademiks, Uzi told Akademiks that he just wanted Atlantic Records to “respect him.”

It’s said Uzi can drop “Eternal Atake” at anytime whether its tomorrow, or in a year.

The future for Uzi’s next album and career in the future is unclear.
