Diss Battle Between Machine Gun Kelly and Eminem Raises Tension on Social Media

Reporter Eden Smith

Rap artists Eminem and Machine Gun Kelly diss each other in their newest releases “Not Alike” by Eminem and “RAP DEVIL” by Kelly. The feud started when Kelly made provocative and sexualized comments towards Eminem’s daughter, Hailie. Eminem retaliated by calling Kelly out, by name, in his new track.

Machine Gun Kelly tweeted about Hailie Scott back in 2012, stating that she was “hot as ****”. Hailie was just 16 years old at the time and Kelly was 22. Eminem stated that this was not the reason for the diss in his new song, but that the conflict broke out when Kelly suggested in his new single “RAP DEVIL” that Eminem hindered his rap career by black-balling and banning Kelly from his radio station “Shade 45”. Eminem did in fact ban Machine Gun Kelly from his radio station, but with reasonable anger as Kelly was lurking on Eminem’s daughter’s social media.

In March of 2018, Kelly featured on Tech N9ne’s song “No Reason” and stated “To remind y'all you just rap, you're not God” a shot at Eminem’s song “Rap God” of early 2013. A long waited 6 years later, Eminem confronted Kelly in his song “Not Alike” saying “But next time you don’t gotta use Tech N9ne if you wanna come at me with a sub-machine gun. I'm talking to you but you already know who the **** you are, Kelly. I don't use sublims and sure as f*** don't sneak-diss. But keep commenting on my daughter Hailie”. Eminem was annoyed by the fact that Kelly would make comments about him but not directed at him, Eminem admitted that his actions were “petty” but still sided with his own decisions.

In September of 2018 Eminem released his final retaliation against Machine Gun Kelly, a single called “Killshot” filled with disses and burns and feature an album cover of Kelly’s face in the scope of a gun. Kelly merely tweeted about how it took two weeks for Eminem to actually come out and say something back, as if pointing out a weakness. Eminem decided it was time to let the fight fade out, Kelly chose not to respond to “Killshot” and Em refused to give Machine Gun Kelly any more attention stating, “as ‘irrelevant’ as people say I am in hip-hop — I make them bigger by getting into this thing, where I’m like ‘I want to destroy him. But I also don’t want to make him bigger.’” Kelly’s only rebuttal was shading Eminem by wearing Em’s “Killshot” album cover on his t-shirt and running on stage screaming, “**** Marshall Mathers” (Eminem) at his performance at Fall Out Boy’s concert on September 17th, 2018.

Kelly later appeared in an interview with The Breakfast Club on September 21st, 2018, where he seemed very offended that Eminem refused to talk to him, but then proceeded to “whine and complain” quoted saying "He doesn't want to have a conversation…. you blew it. You blew it. It's cool 'til it ain't. I wish he would shut the **** up." He wants Eminem to confront him but wants him to stay quiet at the same time… at this point Eminem has already let the conflict go, but Machine Gun Kelly continues to bring it up, milking the situation. Almost everyone is letting the situation go as evidence begins to fade off the face of social media. A conflict almost seven years in the making is finally over.
