Disney+ Gets an A+ From the Dukes' Dispatch

Report by Eden Smith

Within the second day of its release I had installed the Disney+ app and signed up for my free trial.

I was taken back to my early childhood after seeing the classic Mickey Mouse, Phineas and Ferb, the Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, Shake It Up, and even the Suite Life of Zack and Cody.

I was thrilled, no more hunting for bootleg, pirated, and low quality episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place or an online version of Halloweentown (and Halloween Town II of course).

There were complaints of glitches and crashes, but I personally didn't experience any troubles, every title loaded and played through perfectly fine.

Disney+ has something for everyone, and I mean everyone. There’s Disney Junior, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and Pixar. There’s movie options from 90’s throwbacks, to originals, and even some of the newer releases/ documentaries available to watch.

There’s even a category of just Disney-Pixar Short Films such as bao, Lava, Partly Cloudy, and even Dug’s Special Mission.

Not sure what some of these shows are? Feeling a little old maybe? What about Boy Meets World, Mary Poppins, The Parent Trap, Hocus Pocus, even The Sandlot?

Still not feeling it? Try Mickey Mouse Steamboat Willie circa 1928. Mickey Mouse episodes through the years are available as well.

I love this app. My sleep schedule is suffering, but all the nostalgia is filling my heart.

All the movies are categorized by film studio so it’s easy to find what you're looking for. You can also search for specific shows and movies if you're craving a specific film. If you're feeling indecisive you can choose to look at all the movies at once and sort by your preferences

If you're a fellow Marvel fan, you'll be sad to hear that there isn't that large of a selection.

They've included a few Captain America movies, a few Iron Man movies, the Avengers, and some Thor, but in my opinion they are extremely lacking on the cartoons. They've included plenty new-age Spider-Man cartoons and mini adventures/ shorts, but its just missing those old school comic cartoons.

Maybe you're more like my younger sister, who is absolutely addicted to nature documentaries and everything National Geographic. In that case, lucky you, because Disney+ has it down. Apollo: Missions to the Moon, Expedition Mars: Spirit & Opportunity, Science Fair, and The Flood.

My sister says they have a good mix of animals, Earth, and space documentaries to binge watch, and considering I've only seen her come out of her room to go to school and eat, I think she’s enjoying it.

Even though this might be a minute detail it especially made me happy. When creating or editing your personal profile, you have the choice of picking your profile icon. They have princesses, animals, Mickey Mouse, live action characters, and Disney Junior characters. There must be at least 100 of icons to choose from, and somehow that just feels like the icing on the cake.

Overall, I would rate Disney+ 5 out of 5 stars for their vast selection of films and shows and attention to small details. I think it’s a very good purchase and I will continue to binge watch my childhood all over again.
