Ariana Grande Makes Charts

The young and talented singer Ariana Grande is becoming more and more popular each day. Grande’s music is breaking the charts and catches many new listeners’ ears. Grande has been releasing many new songs lately, and many of those songs are making the charts as soon as they are released to the world. Grande’s music in the past weeks have easily captured number one, her second trip on the charts is the top of the Billboard 200 in the last six months. Ariana’s song “Thank U, Next” opened up with 360,000 total copies, which are the best sales of Grande’s career.

Out of the 360,000 total copies, 116,000 have come from her traditional albums sales, and she also has 228,000 streaming equivalent albums that have been sold. Billboard reported that Grande’s song “Thank U, Next” tailed the most first-week streams ever for a female artist’s album. By comparison, Ariana’s “Sweetener” had opened with 231,000 total copies when the song debuted at number one in August 2018. Her song “Thank U, Next” also marks Ariana’s fourth number one album, following her 2013 album “Yours Truly”, 2014 albums “My Everything” and “Sweetener”. Grande’s 2016 album “Dangerous Women” which peaked at number two. Ariana’s song “Thank U, Next” was the release that impacted Billboard 200’s Top 10.

Grande isn’t the only who made charts. The singer Kacey Musgraves had a “Golden Hour” that surged her back up to number nine and sold 20,000 total copies in a abbreviated sale a few weeks following. Her album made album of the year. Grande joins the pop star elite of Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber, Drake, and Britney Spears. Ariana also has made charts with her new single “7 Rings,” and in doing that, the young talented singer has made Billboard chart history. Ariana’s new song that was released on January 18, 2019 debuted and is at the top of Billboard Hot 100 chart for this week. According to Billboard, Grande is just the fifth artist with multiple number one debuts, and Ariana is the first artist whose first two number one debuted at the top of the Hot 100. Both are tracks on the singer’s upcoming fifth album also titled “Thank U, Next.

The Hot 100 uses data from radio airplay, digital sales, and streaming services in its ranking, and this lets them know who had what rank on what charts. On Twitter, Grande thanked her fans by sharing, “our second number one debut in three months. I love the people I made these songs with more than words can express,” and she added, “thank y’all for everything. I’m eternally grateful.” Ariana’s mother also congratulated her daughter in a tweet stating “Congratulations my dearest daughter!!! [...] I am proud…[of]...the records you are breaking and the company you are keeping are just phenomenal.” Grande is the first female artist to replace herself at number one on the singles charts.“7 Rings” was released and was number one. When Grande released her single ‘Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored’ it moved her spot from number one for ‘7 Rings’ and was replaced with the new single right away.

Ariana is now the fourth artist ever to have three number one singles in under 100 days, joining Elvis Presley, John Lennon, and Justin Bieber.
