Jeopardy Host Alex Trebek Diagnosed with Cancer

On Wednesday, March 6th, Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek published a video announcing that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

In his video, Trebek came out and clean and simple, his tone was serious yet empathetic as if not to upset his viewers.

"Just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I'm going to fight this, and I'm going to keep working. And with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease."

Trebek is now 78 years old but shows no sign of giving up his fight, he seemed to keep his wits and humour about him while announcing the bad news.

He even jokingly suggested that the reason he had to fight this disease is because "Truth told, I have to! Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy! for three more years! So help me. Keep the faith and we'll win. We'll get it done."

Following through on his promise, Trebek returned to work a week after his diagnosis for his first taping after the public reveal.

Alex Trebek has now been hosting Jeopardy! For 35 years and as of last fall he renewed his contract until 2022. He plans to follow through for these next couple of years and kicking cancer’s butt.
