You are constrained by your page number limit, so try to keep within the guidelines given:
A1: Design Opportunity
A1 = 200 Words and would be about 2-2.5 pages
Redesigning an existing product with the aim of improving its functionality, or lessening its negative impacts on the environment.
A product aimed at the wider community, think "elderly, disadvantaged" etc.
Developing a new product that solves a unique problem as outlined in user research.
Describe the current situation.
Explain and justify how this situation creates a problem.
Support your claims with research, photographic proof and data.
How to begin the project: Describe the Task being carried out, the User carrying out the task and the environment in which this task is being carried out. Jump straight in.
How to show your research: Take photos, first hand, of the Task, User and Environment. You may need to gather Anthropometric Data from referenced books, you may need to create a personae. Your observations should be supported through Primary and Secondary research. Remember to observe your page limit, don't waste space with irrelevant images, duplicates or Google!
A2: Design Brief
A2 = 150 Words and would be about 0.5 -1 page
Describe the expected outcome of the Design Project, you wont be able to specify exactly what the outcome will be so try to be broad but focused on a general concept.
You will need to address: Design Purpose, Target Audience, Product Criteria, Scale of production and the Product Constraints.
State how this solution will benefit the users as highlighted in A1
Use imagery where and when needed to support your descriptions.
These are the considerations you would want to go into the project with, you can discuss those you find most relevant:
Performance
Ergonomics
Budget
Materials and Manufacturing Processes
Environment (usage and global)
Scales of Production
Marketing possibilities (HL Only)
Volumetric requirements
Time for completion (Use COVID if needed)
A3: Design Specifications
A3 = 800 Words and would be about 3 pages
A3 = Must be in order of importance (Unlike iGCSE)
You MUST put these in your own order of priority:
Function
Aesthetics
Target audience
Production constraints
Material selection
Size
Quantity
Competition/Unique selling point
Label your spec points for easy reference later on
Keep your Points and Justification aligned within the same category
Refer to your research in A1 and A2, do not simply list the point, instead use citations within the justification
Identify the type of research carried out in the justification
Seeing into the future: You will need to design tests against each of these specifications, think about how you'll prove the your product is a success. (This will/ may be done in Criterion D)

Level descriptor
The work does not reach a standard described by the descriptors below.
The student:
identifies a problem
develops a simple brief that identifies few relevant parameters of the problem
develops a design specification that states the requirements, with no reference to the outcomes of the research.
The student:
identifies an appropriate problem that leads to a design opportunity
develops a brief that identifies some of the relevant parameters of the problem
develops a design specification that outlines the requirements, with limited reference to the outcomes of the research.
The student:
describes an appropriate problem that leads to a design opportunity
develops a detailed brief that identifies the relevant parameters of the problem
develops a design specification that justifies the requirements, based on the outcomes of the research.
