The UWCSEA Phoenix Climbing programme is extensive yet inclusive, guided by a strong philosophy and the Phoenix Spirit. Through a wide range of classes, climbers of all abilities from K2 to G12 have the opportunity to learn the physical skills, techniques and strategies of climbing, how to keep themselves safe in a dangerous environment and, how to take responsibility for the safety of others.
Climbing at UWCSEA offers a range of pathways to provide opportunities based on student interest and abilities. Climbers may select the development programme that requires a weekly and seasonal commitment. Alternatively, students may specialize in Climbing at a performance level and are able to represent the College team from G6-G12 in both local and international individual and team competition. Performance level climbing for the College team involves a training commitment of multiple times per week throughout the year.
Through the Phoenix Climbing programme, students learn and reflect upon the personal skills and qualities of our UWCSEA profile. Climbers learn the benefits of hard work, how to be resilient and how to best self manage their time. When setting goals and reflecting on development and performance, students are guided to be reflective and self critical, whether confronted by adversity or rewarded with success to remain honest and principled.
Placing great emphasis on teamwork, community engagement, student leadership and service programmes, UWCSEA Phoenix Climbing Programme aims to provide powerful and meaningful opportunities for our climbers to unite and serve the College and the wider Singapore community through their sport.
