UWCSEA aims to inspire and empower students to discover, develop and share a lifelong passion. We want to provide strong foundations for a healthy active lifestyle, personal development, positive interpersonal relationships and service to others.
The purpose of the Community Activity Programme is to:
Provide the opportunity for students from UWCSEA and the wider Singapore Community to connect through participation in healthy activity.
Develop students' skills to reach their full potential
Provide opportunities to appropriate levels of competition
Build student character and leadership skills
Instil the importance of teamwork, community and service
The Community Activity Programme (CAP) is extensive and inclusive, catering to all ages and abilities from K1 to G12 and is available to UWCSEA and NON UWCSEA students.
To cater to the wide range of student interests and aptitudes for sport and activities, the CAP includes an extensive menu of opportunities that include: Basketball, Climbing, Volleyball, Hockey, Karate, Badminton, Softball, Rugby, Tennis, Swimming and Gymnastics.
The programmes run predominantly on the weekends and weekday evenings. There are development and competitive opportunities depending on the activity selected. The CAP also provides an extensive Holiday Programme during UWCSEA School Holidays.
Through the Community Activity Programme, students learn and reflect upon the personal skills and qualities of our UWCSEA profile. Participants learn the benefits of hard work, how to be resilient and time management skills. When setting goals and reflecting on personal development and performance, players are guided to reflect, be self critical and work on steadfast improvement.
Our CAP places great emphasis on teamwork, community engagement, student leadership and service programmes. Through this, we are able provide powerful, meaningful opportunities for our players to unite and serve the College and wider Singapore community.
We have developed a pathway for students from K1 to G12 (4 yrs - 19 yrs), that caters to all levels and abilities throughout our weekday after school activities programme and selective school teams (UWCSEA Dover Students only). In addition to this, we also have our Community Programmes (Phoenix Clubs) which are open to the wider community, providing a platform for further development and competitive opportunities.
We have aligned our programmes with the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) approach, which provides a guide for optimal development based on growth and development of individuals. We also look to the respective international guidelines regarding modified approaches and equipment for each sport to ensure optimal learning, development and enjoyment.
We have tried to ensure the pathway is a clear overview for parents to understand where their child may begin their journey and where the student can go with their chosen sport depending on their chosen direction. This is a broad guideline and approach for all sports to ensure we are all aligned. Specific pathways and programmes are therefore developed for each individual sport.
