George Eastman was an American entrepreneur and philanthropist who made his wealth from the founding of his company Eastman Kodak. He started his company around his photographic developments of instant and simple cameras and film. Because of these innovations, photography was made available to the masses, expanding the breadth of home and motion photography. Throughout his life, he was dedicated to ensuring public goods (education, healthcare, leisure, etc.) we easily available, donating more than $100 million.
George Eastman Hall was originally a building at RIT's downtown campus, and the name carried over when they moved to Henrietta.
