Who was Max Lowenthal?

Max Lowenthal was one of the key pieces in the founding of the Mechanics Institute. Max Lowenthal founded Rochester Knitting Works in 1868. Max Lowenthal's son, Arthur, donated money to make the new building possible and had the building named after his father.
