In this lecture, we discuss many things, but mostly we study the idea of perspective, which is similar to world view. It is the idea that all of us look through different lenses as we experience the world through our. This can simultaneously illuminate and obfuscate the world to us. It is my hope that, armed with this knowledge, we can better navigate our way through cross-cultural communication and cooperation.

Kevin McManus is an associate professor of English at Tokiwa University who specializes in the development of English oral communication skills. His classes at Ibaraki University focus on improving speaking fluency through discussion of topics relevant to students.

Patrick Savage, a graduate of Stirling and Edinburgh Universities, has worked in education in the the UK and Japan for more than 25 years. He has a particular interest in the use of technology in English language education. He teaches a short series of lectures in Ibaraki University about the history and culture of Ireland.

Tod Tollefson

Tod was born and grew up in the midwest of the USA (the states of Missouri, Kansas and Minnesota). Tod attended 7 schools (3 in the USA, 3 in Europe, and 1 in Japan) en route to a bachelor’s degree. He received a Fulbright grant to study in Norway. Tod completed a Ph. D. in victimology at Tilburg University in The Netherlands. He has lived in Mito since 2001. He plays tuba in a New Orleans jazz band and creates textile art.
