What does it mean when a teacher calls to inform you they are "writing a referral" for your student? Some inappropriate behaviors are addressed by the teacher. Others are more major and require an administrator to become involved. A teacher will write a disciplinary referral when they believe an incident warrants an administrator. The administrator will then investigate the situation and assign appropriate consequences as needed. It may take several days to complete an investigation depending on the complexity of the situation. Parents will receive a phone call from the administrator and a copy of the referral with the outcome.
