THE TURON RIVER
PATH OS THE TURON RIVER
The Turon river is located in El Burgo, Málaga. This river is born in Sierra de las Nieves and flows to the Swamp of Ardales. It is 8.3 km long. The Turon river is very important because there are a lot of vegetation and animals. It is the purest river of Andalucía.
There is a beautiful path next to this river. In this path there are many trees and during a piece you go for a canal until the first “dique” of the Turon river. You can bath in most parts of this river, we like it a lot in summer.
You can enjoy nature and there are a lot of fish. Some pools that we can find in the Turon river are: “Dique, Largo, Requena, Nacimiento or Hierbabuena.” All these are found near El Burgo.

The Dique of El Burgo (Málaga) is a place of the National park of Sierra de la Nieves.
At the begining of the XX century there was a big storm and the Turón river overflooed and there was a big flood. To prevent the Turón river overflowing again, the people of El Burgo build a dam known as El Dique.
The Dique is 5 meters below the water and 5 meter above the water.
There are otters (nutrias) and tawny buzzards (buitres leonados).
In summer yoy can go to the Dique to swim in it and jump to the water from the rocks and the wall.
The dique is near the Largo, a part of the Turón River. You can swim in it and ride a kayak in summer.
It is said that his story is about a ranger who is showing a child some of the characteristic places of El Burgo

This monument was made to commemorate the first centenary of the forest ranger corps, in 1977. The statue represents a forest ranger who takes a child into the beauty of these lands, symbolizing the legacy that must be left to future generations.
If you wonder where it is, The viewpoint is located within the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park, in the town of El Burgo.
You can see valuable masses of fir, pine, holm oak and cork oak. They correspond to the Yunquera mountain, the Cubero fir and the Ronda fir.
