Shout out to Rutledge, Sistrunk, Lyras and Lucas for attending the Writing about Reading: ECR PD.
Check out Ms. Green and her small group. The highlights: Posted Learning Target (on the rainbow!), Small group goal poster visible, concrete learning with wooden ten frames. BEST WORK!!!
In Ms. Thomas's class students were using base ten blocks in math workshop to solve addition problems and then...
...graduating to pictorial model. Look at those mathematicians! (Notice the pouch of base ten blocks in the top right corner in case they still need the concrete tool)!
Ms. Rutledge's small group goal poster already accumulating evidence of BEST WORK.
Example of her students' goal setting sheets in each student's Data Binder.
And how about this best work from a brand new teacher, Ms. Nichols. Notice the POSTED learning target woohoo! Look at the ten frames each student is using to represent numbers 0-10. I love the way the friend in the pink shirt is locked in on Ms. Nichols instruction. Precious!
Check out 1st and 5th grade teams leading out in our reading data wall launch. WOW!
What Is Expected of Me This Week
Our Extended PLCs are this week for 4th, Kinder, and 2nd. We will check in on WIN time and track progress on each team's SMART goals. Please make sure you have your data and agendas are ready to go, and you have added your students of concern to the Kid Talk form. Formal MTSS meetings have started.
As always, update your Reading Tracker before your PLC day. Remember our goal is for students to make at least a years growth in reading. Start progress monitoring your students. Linked are the running records forms we will use this year: Fiction & Non-Fiction. Hard copies are in the Literacy Library.
IMPORTANT VISITOR: On November 4th, our area superintendent, Dr. Russell, will be on campus for our quarterly check in. Visiting classrooms is a top priority for this visit. Other district dignitaries may be present as well. Everyone will have a copy of our master schedule and will expect to see the stated components as they tour. They will be looking for evidence of Savannah's four big priorities which are posted in the picture below.
November 1st Half Day: Plan to meet in the library as usual at 1:00. We will meet together to set up our time, and then break up for planning. Here are the half day Must Dos:
All students' magnets must be posted on the reading data wall (this can be done any time this week, but must be complete by Friday at 3:00).
Make sure quality student work is posted in each hallway. Please remember that every student should have work in the hallway. Student work should be their independent work and all work should not look exactly the same. TEKS and rubric should be posted but do not post student scores. Instead of student names on the work, put the student's class # and mark through name if it can't be erased.
All WIN Time and On-Level goals must be posted in the PLC room by Friday at 3:00.
Continue lesson plans for the remainder of the nine weeks. You will also have November 5th to work on this task with your team.
Math WIN continues this week! Make sure you've entered WIN Time Goal #2 on the teacher data binder. If you haven't already, enter the dates you will check progress. Please have at least 3 data points--Baseline Data, Mid-Way Check and Ending Data.
DATA SHOWCASE November 14th: Let's work hard and show off our progress on Data Showcase day November 14th. Here is the new presentation link.
Fifth Grade Math: Register and attend the Content Refresher that is Tuesday (10/29) at Bell. Sign up here.
Vector Training/Safe Schools: You are probably getting many reminders in your inbox to finish your safe schools training. Our school is currently 61% compliant. This task is due by November 11th.
Read-A-Thon: Read-A-Thon begins this week! Please pass out your student reminder sheets on Monday. They will be in your box. Your class reward posters should be posted and you can begin logging your class reading sessions for any group reading done at school. Update your class daily on their progress and remember that your excitement and communication has HUGE impact on this fundraiser's success! Don't forget that classroom teachers will get to spend 10% of the total their class raises on materials for your classroom!

A word about CONFERENCES: Denton ISD asks that teachers plan a parent conference for every student performing below level (K-2 according to the literacy packet and/or PNA; 3-5 two or more years behind in iReady reading and/or math, or a year or more below grade level according to F and P). If you have questions about who needs conferences we can discuss during PLC. We like to complete conferences by the end of October, however we will also give you the afternoon of 11/5/2024 (PD Day) from 1:00-3:00 to tidy up conferences. Keep a sign-in sheet to show which families showed up.
If you need an interpreter for conferences, please use the Language Line. See more details here.
Here are some reminders about procedures for getting new IDs for staff or students.
New Students - If you have a new student who needs an ID, please email Holt with the student's name and ID number along with a headshot-type photo. (If you do not want to take/send a photo, you may send the student to the Library during Open Checkout to request a photo be taken for their ID. Open Checkout is Mon, Wed, Thu, and Fri from 2:25-2:50, not Tuesdays.)
Current Students - If you have a current student who requires a replacement ID, there is a $5 charge. The $5 fee must be paid in cash to the office. The office will then email Holt to print the ID after receiving payment. Payment DOES NOT come to the Library.
Staff IDs - If staff needs a new ID, please just email Holt. Your latest Lifetouch photo in the system will be used. If you do not want that photo, please send the one you would like utilized.
The information in this corner will help us understand ourselves better so that we can make progress on our new culture goal: "at work, i have the opportunity to do what i do best every day. "
This week's focus for "doing what we do best EVERY DAY" focuses on your enneagram number.
Think about your enneagram number. Read the descriptions below for each enneagram number's career strengths. Which part of your number's description resonates with you the most?
Note: This will be our PLT task for the next two weeks so that each team has the chance to share out during extended PLTs.
Don't forget!
Every Thursday is Braswell Spirit Day. You may wear jeans and Braswell spiritwear/colors.
Every Friday is Savannah Spirit Day. You may wear jeans and Savannah spiritwear/colors.
