Greetings Calhoun Families!
We are excited to share that today our 6th graders were assigned Chromebooks for use during school hours. These Chromebooks will stay at school and must be checked out in the morning and returned at the end of the school day. To help protect these valuable devices, we encourage parents to consider purchasing the district's Chromebook insurance.
Chromebook Insurance Information:
Cost: $20 per device per year ($10 per year for Free & Reduced lunch participants)
Coverage Includes:
Repairs up to $200 annually
Intentional or accidental damage up to $200
Lost or damaged chargers ($25 replacement fee)
Please be reminded that our campus front doors open at 7:45 AM, which is also when supervision begins. There is no supervision before this time. Classes start promptly at 8:15 AM.
For those dropping off students, please use the designated drop-off lanes in front of the school building. The front parking lot is not an authorized drop-off area. Refer to the drop-off map for guidance.
Additionally, please mark your calendars for an early release day on September 20th, with dismissal at 12:30 PM.
Lastly, we kindly remind parents to encourage their children to respect each other's personal space and keep their hands and feet to themselves. Maintaining personal space is crucial for creating a positive and productive learning environment. When students are mindful of their boundaries, it fosters a respectful atmosphere, reduces conflict, and promotes comfort and safety for everyone.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Let’s continue to have a great school year!

At Calhoun Middle School, our mission is to cultivate a healthy school culture where we continuously collaborate and embrace necessary change to ensure student learning in an ever-evolving global community.
A big shout out to our Lady Colts Volleyball teams for their incredible performances this week! 🏐🎉
Our 7th Grade A Team achieved a decisive victory against Lake Dallas, winning in 2 sets. Not to be outdone, our 8th Grade A Team secured a remarkable win in 3 sets!
Congratulations to all the players for their hard work and dedication. Here’s to another successful week of volleyball!
Colt Family, Let’s Give a Round of Applause for Our Football Teams!
This week, our football teams demonstrated incredible dedication and skill on the field. We are thrilled to celebrate their outstanding performances:
7th Grade: Our 7th-grade team played a thrilling match against McMath, showing great resilience and sportsmanship. They scored an impressive 21 points in the second half but narrowly missed out with a final score of 21-26. We commend their hard work and determination!
8th Grade: The 8th-grade team put on an impressive display, scoring 24 points in the first quarter and securing a dominant 34-0 victory. Their performance was truly exceptional!
Congratulations to both teams for their fantastic efforts. Let’s carry this momentum forward and continue to support our Colts!
We are excited to announce that our Art 3 students, under the guidance of Mrs. Kernan, will be participating in an art show and auction hosted by Interfaith Ministries of Denton next week, September 10th. This event aims to raise funds to support local residents in need of essential services, including utility assistance, diapers and wipes, hygiene supplies, transportation aid, and referrals.
This week, Calhoun Middle School was thrilled to host the Texas A&M Chemistry Road Show, following a request from 6th-grade Science teacher Mr. Amendola. The Chemistry Road Show is a dynamic public service program that aims to both entertain and educate students through engaging chemistry demonstrations.
Some of our 6th graders had the opportunity to witness a series of chemical experiments that transformed ordinary objects and events into captivating learning experiences. This visit was especially timely, as it coincides with their upcoming unit on chemical change.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Texas A&M Chemistry Road Show for adding Calhoun Middle School to their tour and enriching our students’ educational journey.
This week, our teachers and staff were delighted to enjoy a wonderful coffee, tea, and beverage cart, generously provided by our PTA. It was a thoughtful treat that brightened everyone’s day and energized us for the busy week ahead. Thank you to the PTA for your ongoing support and for making our workplace even more enjoyable!
If you haven’t yet joined the PTA, now is a great time to consider becoming a member. For just $10.50, you can support a wide range of activities and initiatives that benefit both students and staff. Membership is not a commitment to volunteer; it’s simply a way to contribute to our school community. Volunteering is entirely optional.
To learn more about the amazing work the PTA does and how your membership fee supports our campus, please check out their latest newsletter here. Your support makes a significant difference!
September
Every month this school year, CMS will focus on one learner profile as a campus. For the month of September, we are INQUIRERS!
Each of the learner profiles includes a "We" statement that describes how to show the learner profile and why the learner profile is important. Discuss the "We" statement for this month with your student and encourage them to strive to see themselves as an IB INQUIRER.
We develop our natural curiosity and acquire the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and research. We show independence in learning.
See the full Learner Profile calendar here: LEARNER PROFILE CALENDAR
