Principal, Calhoun Middle School
At Calhoun Middle School, our mission is to cultivate a healthy school culture where we continuously collaborate and embrace necessary change to ensure student learning in an ever-evolving global community.
This month, Calhoun’s 8th graders had the exciting opportunity to explore the LaGrone Academy, a professional training facility that provides Denton ISD high school students with hands-on experience and specialized training in high-demand career fields. The LaGrone Academy, which also serves students from neighboring districts, offers programs where juniors and seniors can earn college credit and certifications or licenses in technical fields that aren’t always available at other campuses.
The visit to LaGrone allowed our students to glimpse into the opportunities that will be available to them in high school, helping them consider different career paths and develop goals as they move into their 9th-grade year. This experience highlighted how Denton ISD is preparing our students for tomorrow’s workforce by connecting them with innovative programs and training. We’re thrilled to help them start thinking about the many future possibilities ahead!
Our ESL Newcomers in Ms. Bosquez’s ELAR class recently had an inspiring visit to our neighboring PYP feeder school, Newton Rayzor Elementary! 🌟
These talented students put in tremendous effort to create their own stories, complete with illustrations, and then translated their work into English to share with the second graders. Reading aloud in a new language was a challenge, but they rose to the occasion beautifully!
Now that we’re right next door to Newton Rayzor, we look forward to many more opportunities to visit, learn, and collaborate with their amazing students and staff.
November
Every month this school year, CMS will focus on one learner profile as a campus. For the month of November, we are THINKERS!
Each of the attributes in the IB Learner Profile includes a "We" statement that describes how to embody the learner profile and highlights its importance. Discuss the "We" statement for this month with your student, and encourage them to embrace being an IB THINKER.
As thinkers, we strive to be individuals who approach problems thoughtfully and creatively, using critical thinking skills to make reasoned decisions. We commit to analyzing situations from multiple perspectives and reflecting on our ideas and actions to grow as engaged, open-minded learners.
