Greetings, Calhoun Families!
Happy Valentine’s Day! As we move through February, I want to share a few important reminders with our Calhoun community.
In observance of Presidents Day, Calhoun Middle School will be closed on Monday, February 17. Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 18.
We’re excited to host our Winter Dance next Friday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM here at CMS! This is a great opportunity for students to build relationships and celebrate our school culture. We encourage students to have fun while demonstrating the respect and responsibility we expect of them every day.
As we approach the end of the third nine weeks on March 7, I encourage all caregivers to check the Home Access Center (HAC) for any updates on grades and teacher notes. As an IB MYP school, we want our students to be reflective learners, thinking about their progress and setting goals for the final stretch before Spring Break.
At Calhoun Middle School, learning is required, and we are committed to fostering internationally minded, principled students who embody our Prompt, Prepared, Professional, and Polite expectations. We appreciate your partnership in reminding students to be caring by treating others with kindness, principled by keeping their hands to themselves, and balanced by managing their time and responsibilities well.
Thank you for being part of our community. We are proud of our student's growth and look forward to a strong finish to the third nine weeks!

At Calhoun Middle School, our mission is to cultivate a healthy school culture where we continuously collaborate and embrace necessary change to ensure student learning in an ever-evolving global community.
Last week, we celebrated our students at the Spring IB Community Builder & Honor Roll Awards! We recognized those who exemplify the IB Learner Profile, those who earned A and A/B Honor Roll distinctions, and students who placed in UIL Academic events.
A huge thank you to the Peterbilt PB BOLD Organization for making this event possible! Not only did they support our celebration with prizes for some of our IB Community Builders and "A" Honor Roll students, but they also gifted ALL Calhoun students with Calhoun merch, helping us honor our legacy, strengthen our community, and embrace our identity as Calhoun Colts.
We are so grateful for their partnership and commitment to our students! Stay tuned for more pictures from this special event!
We are thrilled to announce that several of our talented Colts had their artwork featured in the Denton ISD Middle School Art Show! This special event showcases the creativity and hard work of students from across the district. Please take a moment to congratulate our incredible CMS artists:

Our CMS library has been playing matchmaker… with BOOKS this month in preparation for Valentine's Day! Students have been stepping out of their comfort zones and picking a mystery read based only on its topic—no cover, no title, just pure intrigue!
After checking out their "Blind Date," they get to rate it using a 5-heart system and share a quick review. Will it be love at first page or a total flop?
Thanks to Mrs. Hill for setting up this fun literary lovefest!
A huge thank you to all the families who joined us for Rising 6th Grade Transition Night! We loved meeting our future Colts and sharing what makes Calhoun Middle School such a special place.
We can’t wait to welcome you into the Calhoun Colt community and see you thrive in your middle school journey. The best is yet to come!
February
Every month this school year, CMS will focus on one learner profile as a campus. For the month of February, we are Communicators!
Each of the attributes in the IB Learner Profile includes a "We" statement that describes how to embody the learner profile and highlights its importance. Discuss the "We" statement for this month with your student, and encourage them to embrace being an IB COMMUNICATOR.
"We express our ideas and thoughts with confidence, creativity, and clarity, whether we’re speaking, writing, or using technology. We are open to sharing our perspectives and using different ways to communicate, like visual tools or digital platforms, to connect with others. We listen actively and respectfully to different viewpoints, and we work together as a team, valuing everyone’s contributions. Whether in the classroom, on a project, or in daily conversations, we collaborate to solve problems, share knowledge, and support each other’s growth. "
