Hello, Calhoun Colts!
Next week, we are preparing to rise and conquer the STAAR with an exciting Spirit Week! I encourage all our students and staff to show their Colt pride by dressing up each day (check out the dress-up themes in this newsletter!).
We will end the week with our first-ever Colt Carnival on Friday, April 4th! This PTA-sponsored event is a chance for students to unwind, have fun, and celebrate their hard work. There will be free games and activities, along with some games and food items available for purchase, so be sure to check out the details included in this newsletter!
As we continue focusing on the IB Learner Profile of being Principled, I challenge our Colts to demonstrate honesty, fairness, and responsibility both in and out of the classroom. These qualities will serve you well as we approach STAAR testing season and give our best effort on these important assessments!
Upcoming STAAR Testing Dates:
Thursday, April 10th: 6th-8th Grade Reading
Thursday, April 17th: 8th Grade Science
Tuesday, April 22nd: 8th Grade Social Studies
Tuesday, April 29th: 6th-8th Grade Math & Algebra 1
I can’t wait to see our Colts show up, have fun, and finish strong! Let’s make this a memorable Spirit Week and show everyone what it means to be a principled and determined Colt!

March
Every month this school year, CMS will focus on one learner profile as a campus. This month’s Learner Profile is Principled!
Each of the attributes in the IB Learner Profile includes a "We" statement that describes how to embody the learner profile and highlights its importance. Discuss the "We" statement for this month with your student, and encourage them to embrace being PRINCIPLED.
At Calhoun MS, we act with integrity and honesty, making choices that are fair and just. We show respect for others—our classmates, teachers, and community—by taking responsibility for our actions and their consequences. Being principled means doing what’s right, even when no one is watching, and standing up for what we believe in. Let’s strive to be principled in our words, our actions, and how we treat one another every day!

Our 7th grade Robotics students are diving into data analysis! 📊 They’re learning how to organize data, perform calculations, and create graphs in a spreadsheet—all essential skills for real-world problem-solving.
For their practice project, students are analyzing fictional data on how long it takes elementary students to transform a new Transformer toy. Their goal? To determine if the toy meets Hasbro’s production standards and make a recommendation on whether it's ready for launch! 🚀🔍

Thank you to 6th grade Math teacher Andrew Lopez de Nava for creating an informative video that reviews key components of the Home Access Center (HAC). HAC is where parents and guardians can view grades and attendance records.
Please take a moment to watch this video, available in both English and Spanish, to learn how to navigate HAC and stay informed to support your learner.
