Happy March, Calhoun Community!
Spring Break is just around the corner, and I want to take a moment to wish all of our students, staff, and families a safe, restful, and fun break! It’s important to take time to recharge and enjoy a well-deserved break from the busy school days.
As we approach this time of rest, I want to encourage our students to think about ways they can make a positive impact on someone else’s life. Whether it’s through a kind word, helping a friend, or lending a hand to a neighbor, doing something to encourage another person is a powerful way to live our IB Learner Profile trait of being Principled. A principled person acts with integrity, honesty, and fairness – and part of that is being kind and thoughtful to others.
When we return from Spring Break on Monday, March 17th, we will be entering the final stretch of the 2024-25 school year! The days ahead are full of important work and growth as we prepare for STAAR testing. Here’s a look at the upcoming testing schedule:
Thursday, April 10th: 6th-8th Grade Reading
Thursday, April 17th: 8th Grade Science
Tuesday, April 22nd: 8th Grade Social Studies
Tuesday, April 29th: 6th-8th Grade Math & Algebra 1
As we get closer to STAAR testing, I want to remind all of our students that this is a time to stay focused, stay confident, and do your very best. You've worked so hard this year, and I have no doubt that each of you is capable of achieving great things.
Thank you for being an essential part of our community. I’m so proud of the growth I’ve seen this year, and I look forward to continuing our journey together in the months ahead.
Wishing you all a wonderful and rejuvenating Spring Break!
Warm regards,
Mrs. San Miguel

March
Every month this school year, CMS will focus on one learner profile as a campus. This month’s Learner Profile is Principled!
Each of the attributes in the IB Learner Profile includes a "We" statement that describes how to embody the learner profile and highlights its importance. Discuss the "We" statement for this month with your student, and encourage them to embrace being PRINCIPLED.
At Calhoun MS, we act with integrity and honesty, making choices that are fair and just. We show respect for others—our classmates, teachers, and community—by taking responsibility for our actions and their consequences. Being principled means doing what’s right, even when no one is watching, and standing up for what we believe in. Let’s strive to be principled in our words, our actions, and how we treat one another every day!
