At FCA we are proud to offer a newly developed KS3 physical education programme.  The KS3 curriculum offers students the opportunity to focus on further developing skills learnt in Key Stage 2 and to introduce these skills into game situations for a variety of traditional and alternative sports.  Pupils will be given the opportunity to become increasingly skilful and intelligent performers, acquire and develop skills, learn how to select and apply skills and basic tactics, and develop positive attitudes to participation in physical activity.

Students in PE will benefit from our newly developed curriculum consisting of our core traditional sports (i.e. Football, Basketball, Table Tennis) as well as our alternative sports which are inclusive for all (I.e. Kinbal, Frisbee and Futsal).  In both KS3 and KS4, every pupil will complete at least 9 sports throughout the year.  During our Spring term we merge into a 3-week sport curriculum which allows us to further diversify our sporting offer allowing students to take part and experience sports they have not yet tried before.

When progressing into KS4, students will use PE lessons to master skills learnt previously in KS3. In GCSE, students will further develop their knowledge by exploring a range of different topics including:

- Applied anatomy and physiology

- Movement analysis

- Physical training

As well as the theoretical aspect within the GCSE PE qualification, students will also be assessed on their physical and practical abilities, as well as their competence to develop and adhere to a personal exercise programme.  Students will design a personal exercise programme and demonstrate how to interpret the use of data as part of the course.

Students will use PE lessons to master skills learnt previously in KS3. In GCSE and BTEC, students will further develop their knowledge by exploring the long-term effects of exercise. Students will design a personal exercise programme and demonstrate how to interpret the use of data. This is important for improving fitness results and identifying strengths and weaknesses within their performance.

Assessments for KS3 and KS4

KS3 pupils are assessed practically throughout the year within PE.  Students will be given chances to demonstrate their ability to showcase their skills and techniques within different sports and activities.  Each sport will aim to assess the students abilities on different movements and techniques that are sport specific.  Students will then be given individual sport specific feedback to ensure each child is confident in knowing how to improve.

KS4 pupils are assessed practically throughout the year within PE.  They will follow a similar assessment process to KS3 which allows us to practically assess their level within the range of different sports on our curriculum.

How can the parent help their child with your subject?

Parents can often help their child with PE by encouraging them and showing a positive attitude towards physical education.  In order for a child to reach their full potential of motor skills development, parents can also encourage and help their child find a sports club to take part in outside of school hours.  This will help our students reach their optimal level through continued physical exercise inside and outside of school.

What careers can this lead to?

Our GCSE PE course can lead to a range of different sports based careers.  Some of these are listed below:
