PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION 

The 2024 Presidential Election was held on Nov. 5, with early voting starting on Oct. 21. Presidential debates were held throughout the summer. On July 21, President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, marking the latest date a sitting president has dropped out of a re-election campaign. Harris ran against former president Donald Trump, the Republican candidate. 

On Nov. 6, it was announced that Trump won both the popular vote and the Electoral College vote, leading him to become the 47th president. More than 155 million Americans participated in this election, making it the second largest voter turnout in United States history. Trump is set to get inaugurated on Jan. 20 and begin his four year term with JD Vance serving as Vice President.

In the state of Arkansas, 64.2% of voters picked Donald Trump as the presidential candidate. A total of 1,182,676 votes were cast in Arkansas. Besides the votes for Trump, 33.6% went to Kamala Harris, and 1.6% were cast for third-party nominees. Sebastian County held similar results. With 67.6% of votes to Donald Trump, 30% to Harris, and 2.38% cast to third party nominees. Fort Smith had 17 voting locations available on election day, and five open for early voting.
