WHAT I'VE LEARNED:
The key to a productive and efficient workplace is organization. To keep everyone on the same page, it's important to develop a system that everyone can understand.
One of my biggest values is organization. Working in student media has shown me just how easy it is to become unorganized. In order to prevent chaos and an orderless environment, these are a few things I have put in place with Mav Media:
To track the status of the book, I refer to a spreadsheet I made that shows who the page is assigned to and the current state of the page. This spreadsheet helps me keep track of what staff members are completing their assignments and what areas of the book we need to work on.
Our Mav Media email is organized under a variety of labels. This helps those with access to the email easily find the information or specific email they are looking for.
To help the staff with their assignments, I have created a shared document that lists the expectations for their work and the list of pages they have for the year. Students are responsible to check the edits made on the document and report when their work is finished.
We have also used the form of a calendar to show students what their day-to-day assignments should consist of. The calendar is color coded, each color representing a different student and their tasks.
To organize our photographers and equipment we have a photo sign-up sheet. The sheet keeps track of what photographer will be at what event, and also tracks what camera pack they took and when the camera was returned.
My biggest source of organization is my Google Calendar. I keep track of every event, school and personal, I need to be at. It helps me remember my tasks and not overbook myself.
