The Power of AVID AT FOND DU LAC HIGH SCHOOL

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)  is a game changer in the world of education, the purpose of the program is to prepare students for college eligibility and success all while fostering a strong sense of community and family at FHS. No matter what postsecondary path FHS graduates choose, AVID will guide in the development of certain essential skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, reading, writing, and relationship building. AVID fosters a safe and open culture, high expectations for teachers and students, and collaboration in all classrooms. While approximately 40 students per grade level will be enrolled in the AVID elective course, students across the school will benefit from Fond du Lac High School being an AVID site. The district’s vision is that all teachers will employ AVID-endorsed best practices in their classrooms.

What is an AVID ELECTIVE class?

An AVID Elective class is a career and college readiness course that helps prepare students for life beyond high school. For one period a day, students receive the additional academic, social, and emotional practice that will help them succeed in FHS’s most rigorous laude courses. Students receive support in the AVID elective class through tutoring and a proven curriculum based on Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization & Reading (WICOR).
