Not a Box Week. The children have been using their imaginations to create new items from familiar objects. This week I have added several different sizes and shapes of boxes for the children to explore.
Being a teacher, I often spend time on the weekend in the classroom gathering items and getting ready for the week ahead. On many weekends, my own children and grand child join me at the classroom to gather, cut, draw, organize, create items for your children. I am so blessed to have a silent group of support getting things ready for active engagement, play, learning and exploration with your children.
Gabrielle, Shea and Trent came in to help me get ready for the week ahead.
Even Sophie finds small tasks to do. She always asks how the children enjoyed the week.
Last week caterpillars arrived. The children have been watching them carefully, and we will continue to document the changes that we notice. Books, magnifying glasses and conversations help the children to notice changes and explore the life cycle of the butterfly.
Exploration of the planets and the sun continue this week with the addition of the last 3 spheres. The children made their own balloon "Sun" and we use them to sing a variety of songs during our morning routine. This week, the children will be invited to make their own planets at the art engagement centre.
As we head toward the end of the year in Early Entry, the children will continue to practice writing their names and cutting.
Using paint cards, children will match colors on the cards with objects in the classroom.
Each child has prepared a pizza box that will be used to collect the children's materials for the last few remaining weeks of class.
Materials are available for creativity and exploration.
The children have really been enjoying this book on our Awesome Earth.
These three books about the moon and the earth have also been popular during our reading time during our morning meeting.
The light table and activities shelf is open for children to continue to explore - on Friday, we used these materials as a group on the carpet and have used them many times over the course of the year. Now it is time for the children to demonstrate their knowledge and mastery of the materials.
