October 23 - 26

Learning begins in the hallway where children are expected to be able to dress themselves - put on and take on shoes/coats etc. Each child's name is by the door and they are asked to identify it as they enter. There is a new display of the children's art. They were invited to colour orange and black on coffee filters and then spray it with water.

At the end of last week the children were showing interest in pets. So, this week, we have some new play areas that are related to pets including dress up, pet store, pet playing area and a variety of stuffed animals.

Continuing to explore color and shapes, here the children are invited to look at color on the light table, explore coloured shape magnets and sort colors into a sorting chart.

I try to bring in real and natural elements as often as possible. Here you will see gourds and dried corn for the children to explore. We still have our class pet bubbles surrounded by real plants.

I am using pumpkins to have the children explore their own faces. By looking in the mirror and then looking at the pumpkin they can see their features 2 eyes, 1 nose and 1 mouth. We will continue this exploration all week. As well, there are a number of fine motor activities available and a craft if the children would like to complete.

The children haven't yet exhausted all of their play with construction equipment. At a small table is a magnet board that one or two children can explore and play.
