This is a collection of resources organized by month, created and curated by the ABIDE Culture Committee here at Five Keys. We provide this site in an effort to support you in creating and sustaining safe, inclusive, restorative, joyful, healing spaces throughout our agency.
We are fully aware that this is not an all-inclusive and extensive list--there are many more notable dates and causes to honor and recognize every month besides the ones highlighted here! This is a living site that changes and grows as we include more resources. We aim to be as inclusive as possible--if you would like to see something added, please reach out with your suggestions!
We acknowledge that Five Keys Schools and Programs operates on the ancestral homelands of numerous First Nation tribes, including the Wappo and Muwekma in Northern California, and the Tongva and Chumash in Southern California. We are grateful for these lands, and to those that have historically and are presently serving as their stewards, because these lands provide the physical space and resources that allow us to serve our diverse communities and sustain our programs. Since time immemorial, Native people have protected these lands and used them to raise their families and maintain their social systems. To show respect for these lands and for the tribal nations that have taken care of them, we are actively searching for ways to support the efforts of our First Nation relatives and neighbors. Please visit the Five Keys on Native Lands Map to for specific information about the tribal groups in your area. You will find historical resources, current events, groups you can support, and more.
We recognize and acknowledge the labor upon which this country, state, and institutions have been built. We remember that this country was built on the labor of enslaved people who were kidnapped and brought to the US from the continent of Africa and recognize the continued contribution of their survivors. We also acknowledge all immigrant and indigenous labor, including voluntary, involuntary, trafficked, forced, and undocumented peoples who contributed to the building of this country and continue to serve within our labor force. We pay respect by acknowledging the Ancestors, Elders, and relatives of these groups targeted by oppression and share the responsibility for combatting oppressive systems in our daily work.
