Overview: In this lesson the students will create a silk dye project based on an artist of the student's choice. Students will begin this lesson by researching a contemporary famous artist to use as inspiration. Based on what the student researched the student will draw three ideas up for the project. For their final work the student must add color. Then the student will use ink resist to draw their design onto the silk. After the resist dries the student will add dye to parts of the silk. The resist will stop the dye from absorbing into parts of the silk; leaving the area white. When a student is done painting the silk must be dipped in a bath to get the dye to not wash away.
