Per district policy, self paid courses outside of the regular school schedule must be pre-approved if the student intends to have the credit show on the transcript. Examples include Michigan Virtual online classes, or college classes that a student pursues independently (NOT dual enrollment). Not all online vendors are accepted for credit at FHPS; a conversation with your child's counselor is recommended before enrolling in any courses.
Pre-approved courses that fulfill a Michigan Merit Curriculum requirement will receive a letter grade that will calculate into the student's GPA. Pre-approved courses that do not fulfill a Michigan Merit Curriculum requirement will receive a "credit" (CR), and will not impact the student's GPA. Any final assessments for the course must be taken under supervision by school staff.
Families who pursue online or college courses outside of the student's school schedule must also have the course approved in advance if the intent is for the completed course to appear on the student's transcript. Courses will not be approved retroactively; before enrolling in a course, student's are advised to meet with the counselor first.
Self paid courses without approval in advance will not be posted to the student's transcript.
