Dual Enrollment

Eligible students may enroll in a pre-approved dual enrollment course through the Counseling Office. Students that provide evidence (post-secondary transcripts) of successful completion of each course may be granted high school credits toward graduation and subject area requirements.

Students who decide to dual enroll must have their completed FHPS Dual Enrollment Contract before the first day of the new semester in order to secure the DE course on his/her school schedule.

Students planning to complete a college course in the summer (self paid) who also would like this reflected on the transcript must have a Self Paid Course form on file prior to enrolling in the course. Self paid courses that are not approved in advance will not be placed on the transcript.

Once you have completed the entire dual enrollment process, you may not change your college course! Students who drop dual enrollment classes or change to other classes that were not included on the FHPS Dual Enrollment Contract will be responsible for the full payment of these classes. A dropped or unfinished dual enrollment college course for which the student intended to earn high school will be given a grade of E on the transcript. Any completed courses that were not included on the FHPS Dual Enrollment Contract will not be given high school credit and will not appear on the high school transcript.

Step 1: Do you qualify?

Step 2: Meet with your counselor

Schedule time to go over the process for dual enrollment with your counselor and get all of your questions answered! Click HERE for a helpful checklist to guide you through the process. The FHPS Dual Enrollment Contract can be completed after you have determined the college and class(es) you will be taking. ***The college in which the student enrolls will likely have their own dual enrollment paperwork as well. The FHPS Dual Enrollment Contract must be completed in addition to any forms that the college provides to the student.

Step 3: Find a college and class(es)

Eligible students who dual enroll are responsible for applying to the post-secondary institution, meeting with an academic advisor, and selecting a course that meets high school requirements. While an hour of the student's daily school schedule is assigned as the college course, the actual meeting time of the college course may be at another time. Students are not released early or excused for tardiness if the college course overlaps with the school day; typically, a later afternoon or evening college class works best to avoid conflicts with the daily school schedule.

Course options that the student should choose from cannot be for personal enrichment or recreational in nature. Typically, college classes from the core academic areas are approved courses for dual enrollment. Courses that are offered at FHE also may not be approved.

Students are encouraged to consider if the dual enrollment course is transferrable to another college or university if their future plans are to attend a different institution beyond graduation. Click HERE to review the Michigan Transfer Agreement.

Once a class (or classes) is/are determined, the student may enroll. The student/family should NOT pay tuition at the time of enrollment. This is handled between the college and the FHPS Business Office.

Step 4: Submit your FHPS Dual Enrollment Contract

Complete and submit the digital FHPS Dual Enrollment Contract. This must be submitted before the first day of the new semester in which you dual enroll; students who do not complete the forms on time will have their dual enrollment replaced on their schedule with a different class. Students also must attach verification of the course, including the course name, code, and meeting days/times.
