The Coon Family Scholarship will be awarded to students interested in the field of science. Recipients must attend an Oregon accredited four-year institution. The funds will be sent directly to the college or university and can be used toward tuition, fees, and/or books. The scholarships will be available for four consecutive years, providing that the recipient maintain the specified GPA.

About the Donor: The Coon family strongly believes in education and established this scholarship in 2000 to help students further their life's goals. Three generations of Coons have raised their families in Forest Grove and have affected Forest Grove schools.

Applicant must have their application filed with the Education Foundation of Forest Grove by the specified due date of each year. Additionally, they must:

  • Be a graduating senior from Forest Grove High School with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the time of application (a copy of applicant's attendance records must also accompany the transcript of grades);
  • Enroll in an Oregon accredited four-year college or university in the field of science;
  • Include with the application packet a Statement of Educational Goals, not to exceed 200 words;
  • Include three letters of recommendation, two of which must be from current or former teachers;
  • Include a financial statement, which includes parents' income and any other funding available for education (a copy of a completed Federal Financial Aid Form could be substituted for this information).

Recipients must:

  • Be a full-time student (12 credit hours or the equivalent: each quarter/semester);
  • Attend consecutive quarters/semesters annually (excluding Summer Term) for a maximum of four years;
  • Maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA;

A recipient and an alternative will be chosen no later than June 15th annually and notified in a timely manner. Should any of the above stipulations not be met during the life of the scholarship, the recipient must report to the Education Foundation of Forest Grove to determine the status of the scholarship.
