What is a Digital Portfolio?

An online portfolio (may also be called a digital portfolio or e-portfolio) is an online representation of work you have created, as well as your skills and experiences.

A place to take notes.
- You will jot notes about your camera settings while you are “in the field.”
- Record time of day, location, and subject.
- These details will serve as reminders for successful pictures, what lighting, settings, etc. came together to create that photograph.
A place to store your work.
- You will submit all of your unedited photographs along with your edited photographs for every project.
- The photo you select to edit will also be the photo your classmates will critique.

How To Create A Digital Portfolio?

STEP 1: On your computer, go to www.sites.google.com sign in with your FCPS account.

STEP 2: Click on the Blank Site at the top left of the page. It is white with a color +

STEP 3: • To the right of the screen, you will see 3 tabs INSERT, PAGES, THEMES

• Click on Themes - see if you like any of them. If so, Choose that theme. If not, I will tell you how to change the layout below

• Click on "Your page title" and type in your first and last name / Digital Portfolio

STEP 4: Change the text font, size, spacing, color to something you like.

STEP 5: In the upper left corner, you will see where it says Enter site name - Click here and write your first and last name - click enter.

STEP 6: If you want to change the background of the Header, click on the drop down arrow next to image - Click Select - Choose an image from the Gallery, or click on the Google Image tab and look for a picture that you like that relates to Photography in some way. You can also look for a solid color if you choose. If you select an image and don't like it, change it. Make sure the text still shows up.

STEP 8: • Click on the inset tab to the top right of the screen.

• Scroll down until you see Divider. Click on Divider.

YOUR ASSIGNMET # 1: Photographer quotes

Now that your Digital Portfolio is put together, you need to add inspiration to your home page.

STEP 1: Click on the insert tab to the right of your screen and click text box

STEP 2: Change "normal text" to title - Type in Photographer Quotes (Change the color to black and the font is your choice. ) You can also change the background by clicking on the icons to the left.

STEP 3: Click on Insert - Choose the Content Block with 3 image boxes and text below. It should look like the image below.

STEP 4: Open a new search tab and Google photographer quotes. Find three photographer quotes that inspire you. Copy each quote and place it in the area that says "click to edit text" Change the color to black and font to the same font you used on the page already. In the smaller text area add the photographer name.

STEP 5: Now Google the photographer who said the quote and look for a self portrait of that photographer. If you can not find a self portrait, look for a portrait.

• Right click on the image • Save image as • Save to downloads

STEP 6: Click on the + in the center of the image box - Upload - from downloads - click on your image and it will appear in the box.

STEP 7: Insert divider

STEP 8: Do this will all 3 quotes. Click here to view my example

STEP 9: Click Publish - Publish again - Copy published link

STEP 10: Open Schoology - Click on the Assignment (Photographer Quotes) Click on the create tab -

Paste the link - click enter - submit

This gives you something to strive for, be inspired by, and feed into your photographs that you will soon be adding to your portfolio.

We may share our favorite quotes as a class tomorrow.

YOUR ASSIGNMET # 2: I am a Photographer

STEP 1: Take out your phone - open the app store - download Google Drive - USE YOUR FCPS ACCOUNT!!!!! You will use the Google Drive app for all of your projects!

STEP 2: Go through all of the photos on your Phone, or Social Media.. Choose your favorite photograph.

MUST be a picture that you took.
You can switch the picture at any point during the semester.

STEP 3: Upload your photography to Google Drive...

Open the photograph in your photo library
Click the upload button - it is an icon of a square with an arrow pointing upward.
Click on the Google Drive app
Click upload

STEP 4: On your desktop, open your Google Drive - On the top left, click on + NEW - Folder - Title the folder Digital Photography. Drag your Google Sites Portfolio and your Favorite Photograph into this folder. This will be so helpful when looking for images, projects, etc.

STEP 5: Open your Google Sites Portfolio - Go to the HOME page - Be sure that you inserted a Divider below your Photographer Quotes. Hover over your Photographer Quotes title. You will see 3 icons that show up to the left of your screen. Click on the middle icon (duplicate section) Now you have 2 of the same titles. Hovering over second title, to the far left near the 3 icons, you will see a group of small dots. Click and drag the title below the divider. Double click on the title and change it to I AM A PHOTOGRAHER - Click here to see my example

STEP 6: Insert a the CONTENT BLOCK that has 1 image box to the left and text to the right.

Click on the + in the image box - Select Image - Recent (you should see the photo that you uploaded) If you do not, click on my drive - Digital Photography folder - your image.
Once your image is in the PhotoBox, you will need to adjust the image so the entire image is showing. Click on the image and you will see blue dots around the image. Click on the bottom blue dot and drag it downward, then if you need to, click on the right blue dot and drag it to the side - so the entire image is showing.

STEP 7: Click on the top blue text and give your image a title and write by (your name) Change the color of the text to black and change the font to be consistent throughout the page. (you can view my example below)

STEP 8: Click on the text below the title - Include information about the photography you chose.

Who - Who is in the picture - if a person is in the picture, if not, skip it.
What - What is the picture of? What did you use to take the picture? (camera/kind of or phone/kind of?)
When - When did you take the picture? Doesn't have to be specific (last week, a year ago, if you know - time of day, time of year, ect.)
Where - Where did you take the picture? ( Frederick, Orlando, Inside Taco Bell, etc. )
Why - Why did you take this picture? What about the picture makes it your favorite?

STEP 9: Insert a Divider

STEP 10: Turn in your Portfolio

Click Publish - Publish again - Copy published link by clicking on the link icon at the top left of the screen.

Open Schoology - Click on the Assignment (I am a Photographer) Click on the CREATE tab -

Paste the link - click enter - submit

DIGITAL PORTFOLIO SET UP, ASSIGNMENT #1 AND #2 RUBRIC

At the end of each class:

Close all tabs
Click on the 4 blue squares at the bottom of your monitor screen
Click on your name - click on sign out.

PLEASE do not turn off computer monitor or tower at any time
