How to fill text with an image in Photoshop

STEP 1:

Choose a word from the choices below:

CHILL, WINTER, COLD, COLORFUL, DREAM, JOURNEY, LAUGH, AUTUMN, EARTH, FIRE, GROW, NATURE, OCEAN, PEACE, SKY, SNOW, TREES, WATER, WIND, HOLIDAY, CHRISTMAS, NOEL, SPRING, LOVE, BRIGHT, ANCIENT, VINTAGE, FLOWERS, FUNKY, CREATIVE , BELIEVE

YOU COULD ALSO USE USE WORDS RELATED TO SPORTS OR TEAMS.
IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER IDEAS, PLEASE DISCUSS THEM WITH ME.

STEP 2:

Choose an image or images that you would like to fill your text with. The image should go along with the text! Do a google image search - High Resolution - Save to your (P) drive

STEP 3:

Open PS - Create a new file -

Letter Size - Landscape Orientation

STEP 4:

Check to see if you are missing your layers, toolbar, etc.. If you are, go to windows and look for what you are missing - click on the missing item and it will appear on your workspace.

STEP 5:

•Click on the type tool on the tool bar to the left of the workspace.

•Click on your image

STEP 6:

•Type in your word - If you can't see it, change the text color to black - This option will appear below the text and also on the options bar at the top of the page under file / edit / image / etc.

STEP 7:

•Choose a really dense font because you will be filling this with an image and need space to see the image within the text.

•Click on the text drop down menu - Choose Antique Olive Nord D Regular.. If you do not see it in your character window - Change the text from your fonts to more fonts.

•Change the font size to fill the space.

STEP 8:

•This is a great time to save your image: File Save - (P) drive - as a PS document.

•File place embedded - the image you want to fill your text with.

•Make sure that layer is on top

•Right click in the gray space and select Clipping Mask - This will mask the image inside of the text.

STEP 9:

•Make a copy of the text layer - Right click in the gray space next to your text - select

duplicate layer.

•If your clipping mask disappeared, You may need to go back to your fill layer and right click to create clipping mask again...

•Double left click to the right of your original text layer - This will open an option window •Click on the box next to STROKE and click the +

•Click on the color box.

•Hover over your image with the dropper and choose a color that works well with your image. •Adjust the stroke size you would like your outline to be.

•Click OK when you are happy with the way your text looks.

STEP 10:

•Save your image again - click file - save

•Find the rectangle tool from the toolbar on the left side of the screen.

•Select the custom shape tool

•At the top of the screen, you will find the word shape. Select the shape that works best with your image. (there are not too many to choose from)

•Click and drag where you want the icon

•Make a duplicate layer of the image you used to fill the letters. Click on the gray area of that layer and select duplicate layer.

•Drag that layer to the top of the layers panel.

•Right click on that layer - Select create clipping mask - now the icon will be filled with the image as well.

•Hold down the ALT button, left click on the FX next to the original text layer and drag it to the shape layer. This will create the same color border around the icon.

STEP 11:

Your word will have lots of negative space around it.

• Select the crop button from the tool bar on the left.

•Drag the corners to the size boarder you would like around your image.

Now you are finished. - File - Export - Export as - JPEG save to your computer graphics (P) drive

Add a new page to your portfolio - Text

Add your image - publish - publish - turn in
