Year 6 Summer
William Morris
William Morris
In this unit, children will use the work of William Morris to inspire their own Morris style fabric printing. They develop detailed drawing skills and further develop their sewing and applique techniques.
To begin this topic, children looked a range of William Morris' designs and learnt about the history of him and his company. They used Morris' famous 'Strawberry Thief' design to look closely at the type of themes he used in many of his textiles. Children used their drawing skills to replicate some of the detailed parts of the design.
Following this, children began to think of designs to use in their own fabric printing and sewing. They used motifs inspired by Morris' designs, such as flowers, to create repeating patterns
Once they had designed their xcushion cover, the children used stencils to print a repeating pattern using fabric paint. They then used their sewing skills to add detail; thinking about layering their design using applique.
