Stone-age inspired art

In this unit, children will learn about art from the Stone-age. They will develop their drawing and painting skills by completing observational drawings of 'Lion Man' and a woolly mammoth before developing ideas for their own modern-day 'cave painting' by looking at existing examples and experimenting with different mediums.

Observational drawings of 'Lion Man' using preferred medium. Experimenting with creating tones, tints and shades of brown.

Experimenting with hard and soft sketching pencils and developing proficiency with detailed pencil drawings.

Children looked in depth at existing cave paintings and experimented with colours and different mediums to recreate a similar style.

Children used brown paper to recreate the texture of a cave wall then used paint, charcoal and/or pastel to make their own cave paintings.
