Sunflowers - Van-Gogh

In this unit, children will look in depth at van-Gogh's 'Sunflowers'. They will develop their painting and drawing skills and will build on their knowledge of colour mixing and proficiency with different painting techniques. They will create still-life drawings taking inspiration from natural items they can find around the school grounds, such as flowers and leaves.

The children began their unit by finding out about Vincent van Gogh and explored the colours and techniques used in a piece of his artwork.

Children used oil pastels to copy van Gogh's 'Sunflowers'.

Finally, the children collected flowers and foliage from the school grounds to create their own still life scene to draw or paint. The children completed their still life in their sketchbooks first, then created a final piece.
