El Anatsui
In this unit, children will learn about the artist El Anatsui. They will investigate his impressive sculptures and create prints and collages inspired by his love of recycling and nature.
Much of El Anatsui's work is inspired by his love of nature, the environment and the human impact on the world. Therefore, the children started this unit by creating prints of things that they liked in nature or in the environment around them. They designed simple ideas for their prints first before using polystryene tiles to engrave their design before printing it.Â
The children then began exploring some of El Anatsui's impressive scultpures and collages. They looked carefully at the materials he used, many of which are metal bottle tops which have been sewn together, and the meanings and messages behind his work. Children had a go at drawing some of Anatsui's work, thinking about colours and patterns.
