Family Resources!
Dear Exceed Families,
First and foremost, Black Lives Matter! As an African American leader, and parent, I stand in solidarity with the Exceed Team when I say to you racism has no place in our classrooms. We are in this fight together and I want you to know that we are an anti-racist organization showing up to address racism and injustices for our scholars.
The 2019 school year is ending in a way that none of us could have imagined. For some of you, it’s the end of a remarkable year 1 with us; for others it’s the bittersweet ending of elementary school for you and your scholar. The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged us ALL to reimagine and adapt at home, at work, and well, pretty much everywhere.
Details About Next School Year
I know many of you are wondering what school will look like for our scholars this fall. Quite honestly, I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the city/state to share these details as well. As soon as I receive this information, I will be certain to share it with you. Please know that despite the unknowns, the Exceed team is preparing for a high-quality educational experience for our scholars for the ‘20-’21 school year. We will emphasize meeting both the academic and socioemotional needs of our scholars. This is our top priority! Here are the two things we can share:
We are anticipating a hybrid start to the year, something that combines remote learning with in-person instruction. We do not anticipate being able to be at full capacity when school starts.
We intend for the first day of school to be Wednesday, August 26 (with our Kindergarten students starting on the 24th). However, we cannot finalize that date until the NYC Department of Education releases their school calendar. Once the DOE calendar is released, we will finalize our calendar and share it immediately with families.
As we wrap up this school year and prepare for the next, I would like to share two leadership transitions. Our Director of Operations, Mrs. Grand, and our 3-5 Academic Direction, Mrs. Althoff, will be moving on from our Exceed community. We are so thankful for both Mrs. Grand’s and Mrs. Althoff’s many, many contributions to our Exceed community. We will miss them both dearly and wish them all the best in their future endeavors!
Ms. Emily Spine has joined our team to serve as our Director of Operations, bringing with her nearly a decade of experience in schools. Ms. Spine has been working closely with Mrs. Grand to close out this school year to ensure a strong start in the fall. We are excited about Ms. Spine and welcome her to our Exceed community! Secondly, Ms. Vickki Hill, our current 3-5 Academic Coordinator will serve as our 3-5 Academic Director. Ms. Hill is a founding member of Exceed and served as a 2nd grade teacher when Exceed first opened. We are looking forward to a great start this fall!
We ask for your partnership in helping our community prepare for the fall. Please talk with your child about the importance of social distancing before, after, and during school for their safety and others. We’re using the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and state guidelines to help us think about safety protocols, hygiene routines, and other changes we may need to make in order to keep everyone safe and healthy. Partner with us and share your thoughts/input via phone, text, email, Dojo, or by joining any of our upcoming discussions to share your thoughts. Click here to access our list of upcoming events.
We have some exciting opportunities this summer!
