Hello First Grade Families!
Home learning was ssent home today! Please complete pages 7-10. Pages are marked with a green line where to start working and a red line where to stop working. If your student has pages still to complete from last week, they should do those as well! Scroll down for detailed instructions, or see today's email. Home Learning Info:
Hello First Grade Families,
Last week, all of you did an amazing job with helping your child with home learning! The hard work is appreciated by me but more importantly by your child:)
The red math journal is making its home again today with 4 more pages of math to complete. This is not independent work so your help is needed! Remember that it is due next Friday, October 11th.
Helpful terms include:
Tally Mark- a line used to represent 1 thing. When there is a group of 4 tallies, the 5th is used to "close the gate" and create an easy to see group of 5.
10 frame - a rectangle with 10 boxes to help students quickly identify an amount of dots
Pages 7 and 8 have to do with counting and making tally marks. Draw attention to what a group of 5 tallies looks like. This will allow counting on to occur. For example, we would count cherries on the first page like this: "5, 6, 7, 8, 9". This also allows us to count all the tallies quickly for question 4. Count the groups of 5 tallies first "5, 10, 15" before counting on with the rest.
On page 8, your child will need to count the lights in different rooms and make their own tally marks. Make sure they have a clear group of 5 before continuing to make tallies. My example below should look different than your child's answers!
Pages 9 and 10 involve drawing the correct amount of dots on a ten frame. The purpose is for students to understand the concept of 1 more and 1 less.
Page 10 includes a challenge at the bottom. You do not have to complete questions 11 - 14 but are welcome to help your child if they are willing. Otherwise, these questions may be frustrating if your child isn't understanding.
I have attached pictures of answers to this email if you need them. This should be brought back to school no later than Friday, October 11th. Please send any questions my way! Good luck and have fun!
