Blackout is a mix of an obstacle course, flashlight tag, and capture the flag. You will start in a line with the first person in line sitting in a square. During Blackout you crawl and slide your body across the gym and through the obstacles to find the Orb. The Orb is a glowing ball that is hidden in, on, or under things. A person in the Bunker, at the other side of the gym, is waiting with a flashlight. If they shine the light on you, you must go back to the beginning using the one way Return lane. When someone finds the Orb they yell “GOT IT”. They will then become the Seeker in the bunker for the next game.
When students aren’t in Blackout, board games will be available to play in the cafeteria. Blackout is a fundraiser for the 4/5 field trip!

Hello First Grade Families,
Pages 75 through 80 will need to be completed from 3/12 - 3/19. You may notice that we skipped a few pages. If you want extra work to do at home, feel free to complete the skipped pages.
Another important thing for this week is that any students who don't complete the math home learning stay in for recess on Thursday to finish it. This is an expectation in 2nd grade and beyond, and 1st graders will be starting that expectation this week. The purpose of this is to help your child prepare for the responsibility that comes with home learning.
Helpful terms this week include:
3D shapes - this refers to things that are 3 dimensional. In other words if you can hold it and turn it, it is 3D!
Page 75 is a scavenger hunt! Look for 3D shapes around your house that are cylinders, rectangular prisms, spheres, and cubes. Write or draw them in each box. Page 76 is a challenge for your child to build and draw something with the items they found.
Pages 77, 79, and 80 are all about adding and subtracting. This is nothing new and should be practice to help your student become more fluent with numbers. Using fingers will help if your child is struggling. Choose true or false on the bottom. Check your answer and don't get tricked!
On page 78, identify the shape that doesn't fit and give a reason why. There may be more than one answer if the reason makes sense!
This should be brought back to school no later than Thursday, March 19th.
Have Fun!

Hello First Grade Families!
In addition to this week’s math assignment, another activity is coming home today! This is an activity to get your child thinking about communities. It's called the Family Bead Project. There are directions in the ziploc bag coming home, but the goal is to decorate your wire with things that represent your family. Family is the first community we delve into as a class. The point is for students to take pride in how their family is different from others and appreciate any similarities. Spring Break presents a great opportunity to spend time with family and talk about what makes your family special. Students will be sharing this project with the class when it's brought back. This is due anytime over the next 3 weeks and should return no later than Friday, April 4th.
Best wishes,
Mrs. Shimenetto
