Aboriginal Studies (5 credits)

How do indigenous cultures view the world around them? Students explore Aboriginal worldviews, histories, values, and beliefs. In Aboriginal Studies 10, they will explore the political and economic organizations of Aboriginal cultures as well as Aboriginal symbolism and expression. In Aboriginal Studies 20, they will study cultural change as it relates to the Métis, treaties, legislation and schooling. In Aboriginal Studies 30, students will explore Aboriginal rights, land claims and self-government.  

Aboriginal Studies 30 is classified as a Group A Humanities/Social Sciences, Aboriginal Studies 30 is a core subject, according to Alberta Education, and is now widely accepted as a course requirement for admission to many post-secondary institutions across Canada. Typically, Aboriginal Studies 30 is used as a replacement for a Social Studies 30-1 mark; however, some institutions accept both Aboriginal Studies 30 and Social 30-1 for admissions.
