Junior High Options
Each year, we work with students to find out which options they want as part of their online synchronous learning journey. We invite all students in both the synchronous and asynchronous programs to join the synchronous option classes. Here are some examples of synchronous options we have offered in the past year:
For students in the online asynchronous program who choose to continue in an asynchronous program for their option, we offer the Inquiry Option asynchronously.

Learn about the elements of art and various art techniques through projects (colour blending, colour theory, light and shade, perspective).
Explore a variety of art mediums, such as watercolours, coloured pencils, and graphite.

Learning about food safety and sanitation to maintain a safe environment while cooking and storing food
Developing confidence in reading recipes, making substitutions
VIDEO & ANIMATION
Explore different styles of animation (2D, 3D, Stop-Motion), use animation tools, and get to know the basic principles of animation.
Learning basic editing techniques using online video editors (like WeVideo) to create our own videos.
Using what we know of storytelling and our foundations of animation and video, create our own video/animation.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Explore how photography can express so much more than what you see!
Use photography and art principles to create a specific mood, emotion, or tell a story
Practice with different composition elements to enhance your photos and see the world in a new way

Strategic Games
Whether your brand new to strategic games or an expert, you’ll have lots of fun playing and learning about strategic games.
In addition to being a fun and challenging pastime, strategic games will also strengthen thinking skills such as remembering what you learned at the board, understanding the proper approach to tactical and positional patterns, and using that knowledge to properly analyze, evaluate, and calculate your way to a victory.
INQUIRY LEARNING OPTION (ASYNCHRONUS)
Inquiry Option 7-8-9 provides you with the time and opportunity to extend your studies beyond the scope of the regular curriculum. The aim of this course sequence is to enable you to engage in active learning through the independent research and study of student-selected topics.
Inquiry Option 7-8-9 supports you in the development of a range of competencies, including critical thinking, communication, and creativity. As well, this course sequence provides you with opportunities to deepen your understanding of the ways you learn, through the use of a variety of metacognitive* strategies.
This course will introduce you to the inquiry learning process and teach you planning and, researching skills as well as creating S.M.A.R.T. goals.
In the process, you will also learn a new skill in the topic you choose.
