Parent-Directed Home Education programming (Kindergarten - Grade 12) adheres to the provincial Home Education Regulation. Parents have maximum input into their children's program designs. This program allows the most flexibility in terms of the educational focus for the school year - including the selection of learning activities, resources, and forms of assessment. The parent takes on the sole responsibility of teaching their child/children. An Argyll teacher facilitator is available throughout the year to answer parent questions, and meets with the family twice during progress reviews.
Registration for this Program Closes September 22nd, 2025.
Please ensure you understand your responsibilities in the Parent-Directed home education program handbook. You can find that information here.

Review Meetings:
Alberta Education requires that there are two review dates per school year so that a teacher facilitator may keep track of student progress. Important dates for 2025/26 are:
October 31st: deadline to schedule your first review
February 25th: deadline to complete your first review
February 25th: deadline to schedule your second review
May 26th: deadline to complete your second review
During your review meeting, you will be sharing dated work samples and a summary of learning experiences in relation to your HEP.
New: one review meeting per year must be in-person at Argyll Centre.
Evaluation and Reporting:
Parents have responsibilities related to regularly evaluating student progress:
maintaining dated samples of student work and a record of activities
summarizing progress in relation to learning outcomes
The HEP is uploaded as a record of learning for the year, and will include commentary from the teacher facilitator.
Students have the option to write Grade 6 and Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Tests and Grade 12 Diploma exams. Interested families should contact Argyll as early as possible to make arrangements. Students who are interested in obtaining a High School Diploma at Argyll Centre in our Parent Directed Home Education Program must receive instruction using the Alberta Program of Studies.
