What does a typical day of online learning look like in the live online teacher instruction (synchronous) program?
Students interact with their teacher and classmates online in a structured learning environment throughout each school day. Students have an opportunity to build connections with their teacher and other students which adds a layer of support.
Synchronous learning consists of a combination of live online teacher instruction, guided activities, and independent work a. Teachers create student schedules and monitor and assess student progress.
During online sessions, cameras are required to be on and active participation is expected.
At the elementary level, adult caregivers should expect to offer a high level of support during class time.
What does a typical day of online learning look like in the online teacher-supported (asynchronous) program?
Asynchronous programming allows a student to plan and direct their learning, with an expectation of daily online engagement with their assigned schoolwork. Students are not restricted to the hours of a ‘regular’ school day.
Elementary and junior high students are required to attend a one-hour, teacher-led online session each day. Small group sessions are also offered.
At the elementary and junior high level, programming is dependent on adult caregiver support. (Ensuring routine, planning the child's daily schedule, planning for breaks from the screen and physical activity, supporting the child in understanding concepts and assignments)
High School students are required to complete major summative assessments on camera.
To support student learning, deadlines for assignments, assessments, and projects are established by asynchronous teachers. Regular daily, and weekly submissions of assignments are expected.
What are the technology requirements for online learning with Argyll?
Online learners require access to the following:
A desktop/laptop/Chromebook with a functional web camera and microphone. This can be an internal or external web camera and/or headset with microphone.
Tablets/iPads/phones are not recommended as the primary tool, as some of the functionality with Google Suite and other programs is lost due to processing speed.

What is the difference between parent-directed home education and online learning?
Both these types of learning take place at home. However, supervised Parent-Directed and Online Learning are different programs:
Supervised Parent-Directed: the parent takes on the sole responsibility of teaching for the school year determining what and how the student will learn. A teacher facilitator is available throughout the year to answer parent questions, and meets with the family twice during progress reviews.
Online Learning: The student’s learning is supported by the parent, but a teacher provides lessons,, learning materials and assessments. For a breakdown of the delivery models refer to the synchronous and asynchronous information above.
