CTS

Communication Technology (introductory-intermediate-advanced) (students can earn up to 5 credits at each level)

Students begin the course with an exploration of Graphic Design using the Elements and Principles of Art. They will use vector and raster editing applications to create stunning graphics and visuals. Later in the course, students will explore a variety of animation techniques. Lastly, students will be introduced to audio and video production. Students will finish the course with a great portfolio of projects and an idea of personal branding.

Note: For this course, students need access to appropriate computer equipment (desktop or laptop/ chromebook), software, and a cell phone camera (or a video camcorder). A mouse is essential for the graphic design elements. Specific software will be introduced for each credit.

Computer Science (introductory-intermediate-advanced) (students can earn up to 5 credits at each level)

Students begin the course with an introduction to algorithm design and structured programming concepts. They will learn essential programming skills to solve a variety of challenges and problems using Input, Processing, and Output. Later in the course, students will explore standard coding concepts for Web development by building sites from the ground up. The course ends with an introduction to robotics.

Note: For this course, students need access to appropriate computer equipment (desktop or laptop/ chromebook), software, and the internet. Students will receive instructions on how to set up their programming environments based on their devices.

Design Studies (introductory-intermediate-advanced) (students can earn up to 5 credits at each level)

Students begin the course with an introduction to observational sketching, drawing, and modelling using a variety of materials. Students will develop skills to solve problems with the Design Process through the stages of researching, selecting options, generating designs and prototypes, and evaluating their final solutions. Students will work with 2D, 3D, and Computer Aided Design tools (CAD).

Note: For this course, students need access to sketching and modelling materials, and appropriate computer equipment (desktop or laptop/ chromebook), software, and a cell phone camera (or a video camcorder). A mouse is essential for the computer aided design elements. Specific software will be introduced for each credit.

Leadership (intro-intermediate-advanced) (students can earn up to 5 credits at each level)

This course starts with HSS1080: Leadership Fundamentals. Therein, students explore basic principles of leadership and evaluate their personal leadership characteristics and qualities. They develop project design and management skills to extend and enhance competencies and skills through contexts that are personally relevant.

Photography (introductory-intermediate-advanced) (students can earn up to 5 credits at each level)

Students begin the course with an exploration of photographic Elements and Principles. They will use internet images as well as their own photographs to describe Elements and Principles common to all artistic mediums. Later in the course, students develop essential skills in camera use with a focus on basic composition and an examination of exposure settings. Lastly, students will explore image editing and post-production techniques to enhance their photographs.

Note: For this course, students need access to a camera with the ability to control aperture and shutter speed settings independently. DSLR cameras are preferred, but most smart phone cameras will produce similar results with variations of these settings. Students also need access to appropriate computer equipment (desktop or laptop/ chromebook). A mouse is essential for some of the editing techniques as well.
